For Parents

If you suspect that your child may have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD), an associated learning disability, or a mental health concern ranging from anxiety to a severe mood disorder, you must have many questions. The Affinity Center wants you to receive an accurate diagnosis and learn the causes for your child’s difficulties in school or in social or family relationships because we know that’s the critical first step toward relieving your concerns. We also realize that various diagnoses can bring confusion about what this all means your child and your family.

First, we want you to know that you are not alone. AD/HD is the most commonly diagnosed behavioral disorder in North America, and is also the most studied childhood psychiatric disorder. With appropriate treatment, many children with ADHD overcome the challenges presented by the disorder. There are a variety of treatments such as counseling, behavioral therapy, coaching and/or medication available to help manage this condition.

Second, we want to help you understand the many issues surrounding AD/HD today. For example, how is AD/HD both different from and in some ways like a mood disorder? What about having a combination of learn issues and mental health issues? These are questions the Affinity Center clinical team studies every day.

The Affinity Center is dedicated to helping children and families affected by learning disorders, AD/HD and other mental and emotional disorders. We offer individualized treatment, educational testing, consultation, support and ongoing management programs to meet your child’s needs and help him or her get on the right track towards success.
